The aim of the project is to transfer positive experience and knowledge in the use of Learning Platforms by European Organisations into the Vocational Education and Training sector.

Objectives

  • Carry out a survey of Education Organizations in Europe to determine their needs, experiences and preferences regarding Learning Platforms/VLEs.
  • Advise and support the CDVEC in selecting an organisation wide VLE solution
  • Share experiences with the VET sector in Ireland and a wider audience in the EU

The project partners are FIT, a leading innovator in VET; CDVEC which is committed to becoming a leading organization in Ireland in delivery of eLearning, which is catering for all aspects of Adult Education that includes specific programmes such as Vocational Training and Opportunity Scheme (VTOS), the Back To Education Initiative (BTEI) plus a huge range of Literacy Programmes that would benefit from having an eLearning facility to support the delivery of services; Koning Willem I College in the Netherlands, where high-quality technology and creativity form the basis for trailblazing learning processes in VET; FOR.COM which is an Open University based in Rome and founded by a consortium of 13 universities; and Norwich City College Of Further & Higher Education, an innovator in eLearning with 1,000 staff and 9 vocational schools.

Outcomes

  • An important step for the leading VET organisation in Ireland towards becoming a leader in eLearning by implementing an organisational wide Learning Platform solution.
  • A demonstration project for VET in Ireland to support wide adoption of VLEs & a Survey on VLEs supporting development within EU.

Becta research shows that VLEs will have a significant impact on the process of teaching and learning in the future. By transferring positive experience in the use of VLEs into VET, this project will provide VET teachers with a practical tool and materials for CPD. It will also result in better incorporation of ICT technologies by VET teachers and by improving their teaching practice and pedagogy, will give learners new opportunities for successful outcomes.
