New Methodology and Distance Learning in Vocational Training with Electronic Vehicle Systems

11 November 2002
The project will focus on the need to develop new methodologies in vocational training and modernising technical equipment for the rapidly evolving motor vehicle market.
The project is also intended for staff training in private vehicle workshops. Lifelong learning as a support for ongoing development of new competencies will form the basis of a system where teaching and learning are combined with international awareness and a knowledge and understanding of different cultures.

The partnership will design eight electronic educational modules to be piloted in four different colleges. Students (trainee mechanics) will study and experiment on the modules via computer. Learners from the different schools will be in constant contact with each other, in order to discuss problems and progress.

The results will be disseminated via publications in motor magazines, skill improvement courses, and information on the project's website.

Inter@ctive learning for innovation management

11 November 2002
The goal is to build a non-commercial platform for the exchange of knowledge and experiences between SMEs.
The project aims to create an internet portal for SMEs, to be launched initially in B, E, P, UK, RO and SK and later extended to SMEs throughout Europe.

The website will offer innovative management and training software for downloading, organise regular discussion fora and online debates, provide a database with legal and technical information and product details and allow closed user groups to exchange messages and documents via the internet portal. Importance is attached to a multifunctional, multilingual user interface for the internet site, easy and simple to use with little learning required.

In the initial phase, the target group for the internet portal will be managers and senior staff of SMEs, while in a second stage the internet site will be opened to all workers in SMEs. A particular aim of the project is also to provide opportunities, via the internet portal, for simple and rapid publicity.

The site will offer services for press releases, local and regional information disseminators and specialist disseminators. The use of the internet portal will be monitored and evaluated scientifically to ensure effective further development.

Holistic and Modular Training in the Field of Information and Communication Technology

11 November 2002
This academy for future 'hackers' aims to develop holistic, modular training structures for new entrants in the information and communication professions.
The first step will see the teaching of technical skills in the fields of network technology, web design, database development and electronic commerce.

The second step will impart social skills, in particular through communication training, training in project management and inter-cultural training.

In a third step, the project will teach transfer skills by providing work-related training and work experience in real practice firms and exchange programmes.

To this end, the project will provide each trainee with an individual curriculum tailored to personal requirements and the regional labour market. Training will last between two to four semesters and will lead to a diploma. Each module comprises a distance learning phase and a physical presence phase.

In the distance learning phase, internet-based training models will be used, in the form of both self-tuition modules and interactive, moderated learning on screen. During this phase, trainees will develop, e.g., their own software programmes and solutions for set problems. In the physical presence phase, these developments will be tested in real businesses.

With its modular form of training and the two separate distance and presence phases, the "Akademie für Zukunftshackler" is designed to target young people in geographically isolated regions. Over the long term, existing educational establishments will be incorporated into the training programme as certified partners for the "Akademie" and take on the individual modules of the physical presence phase for the teaching of social skills.

Public Library Management and New Information Technologies

11 November 2002
The project will assess training needs and NIT requirements in the management of public libraries.
The transnational partnership will develop a training package to address these needs and equip the profession to meet the challenges of technological change.

The role of public libraries in the provision of access to the information society is of crucial importance, as they are well placed to offer free access to learning to the wider public. A curriculum, aimed at young people in initial vocational training, but which could also be adapted for the use of library staff already employed but wishing to update their skills, will be produced. It will comprise five modules: the role of libraries in the information society; staff management; elaboration and management of projects for public libraries; budget planning; information access and distance learning materials.

The training package will be prepared in English and all the languages of the partner countries, and be available in CD ROM format.

Tele-Tutoring for Language Instructors

11 November 2002
The aim is to develop a tele-tutoring system for language teachers to enable them to download data from an internet database to aid in language teaching.
Promotics II is the continuation of the Leonardo project Promotics I. The target group comprises language teachers. The aim is to promote language skills through the teaching of foreign languages. The project will provide an aid for language learners in the form of a CD-ROM. Promotics II targets trainers and language teachers. German, English, Spanish, French, Hungarian, Italian and Slovenian are the languages supported.

The project will offer occupational terminology lists, on-line direct-learning software and chat fora for language teachers to exchange experiences, teaching methods and teaching skills. The aim is to improve language learning in Europe, to integrate inter-cultural competence in language learning and to network language learning centres. The long-term objective of Promotics II is to offer all schools with internet access a platform for language learning.

As part of the project, internationally recognised certification procedures are to be developed for on-line language learning. An on-line service centre will be set up for the core functions of Promotics II. This centre will be staffed by experts and will target multipliers throughout Europe in order to guarantee widespread dissemination of the project.
