EC-TEL 2013: Eighth European Conference on Technology Enhanced Learning

The European Conference on Technology Enhanced Learning (EC-TEL) is a unique opportunity for researchers, practitioners, and policy makers to address current challenges and advances in the field. Through EC-TEL, established and emerging researchers as well as practitioners, entrepreneurs, and technology developers explore new collaborations, strengthen networks, and complement their core experience. This year's theme is "Scaling Up Learning for Sustained Impact". We invite contributions for demonstrations, workshops and project meetings, as well as original research papers. A doctoral consortium will also be organized concurrently with the workshops. Please find all details at the EC-TEL 2013 website.

CSI’s academic research conference in Scottsdale offers three tracks: Education, Business and Behavioral Sciences:  The Education Track provides a colloquium to share research that emphasizes inquiry, evidence-based practice, best practice and promising methods. Academic and action research on all education issues is welcome.  The Business Track provides an assembly for business educators, professionals and practitioners to investigate academic and action research, discovery and evidence-based practice. Areas of study may include business, economics, management, accounting, law, ethics, management information systems, finance, foreign trade, international politics, instructional strategies, curriculum design and related subjects.  The Behavioral Sciences Track provides a forum to explore research that perpetuates thought leadership and represents critical enrichment in the areas of addiction, adolescence and youth, adult development, psychology (applied, clinical, developmental, environmental, industrial/organizational, school), social work (clinical, school), human development, counseling and therapy, substance use/abuse, and related fields.

Nicholas Carr's „The Shallows. What the Internet is Doing to Our Brain“ and some implications for Net based learning

This paper reviews Nicholas Carr's book “The Shallows. What the Internet is Doing to Our Brain”. Some of the main findings are discussed, such as the influence of the Internet on brain plasticity, cogitation, and concentration. The article then puts these aspects of digital media usage into the context of Net based learning, analysing challenges in various learning environments. The paper concludes with suggestions on supportive designs of learning environments, individual measures, and media literacy.
