The project Babel 2000 focuses on the need to further the use of new information and communication technologies (NICT) in language learning in vocational training.

It will provide students with new multimedia tools to achieve the linguistic abilities necessary in the labour market and will train teachers on the use of these interactive language methods.

The pilot training project will be centred around teaching English as a second language and as an extra curricular subject. It will address the specific language skills and competencies needed by students in vocational training at beginner and intermediate levels.

The final interactive language products will comprise a CD-ROM, with a range of objectives to accomplish; web sites offering tutorial aids and a printed guide on how to handle CD-WEB tools. Project partners belonging to the education, non-profit and business sectors have designed a joint strategy to launch these resulting interactive language products. Social agents and local government are expected to help with the dissemination.
